‘No go’ for Renger in Dubai

Renger van der Zande was denied that opportunity to repeat his strong performance in the first race in Dubai. Heavy rainfall completely inundated the desert track, leading the organisation to decide to scratch the race. The decision was a setback for Renger, who was looking forward to using the experience he had gathered to score big on Saturday.

“It’s as if you are thrown into the deep end one day figuratively speaking, and the next minute you’re standing up to your knees in water,” says Renger, who took eleventh place in his first GP2 race. “It’s a shame, really, because I was really looking forward to racing today. After the good race yesterday, I had my heart set on winning my first GP2 points. But there’s nothing anybody can do about it. It practically never rains in Dubai and now there is 40 centimetres of water on pit row. It’s a pity.”
